From an ‘insurance nerd’ perspective, contracts can be a valuable tool or a deadly trap for a contractor…


Many contracts are drafted by professionals with little knowledge of insurance coverage.

And, too many construction contracts shift liabilities to the contractor that are extremely difficult and expensive to insure –

Or even uninsurable.

If you don’t recognize this gap in coverage, you can become the default “insurer” of these liabilities.

*The fact that a claim is uninsured does not relieve the contractor of its contractual liabilities. *

Some contracts also require a contractor to purchase coverages that don’t exist in the current marketplace.


So, here’s a friendly reminder – review your contracts in detail.


And, make sure you have the insurance coverage to cover those liabilities as they are passed down the chain.
